Panther Challenge Tournament

03/10/09 District: Morton Ranch Loss 1-2 - District Record 2-5-2; Overall Record - 8-7-7
The Mustangs played an excellent first half of soccer against the Morton Ranch Mavericks.  Only ten minutes into the match, Christian Putallaz played a ball to Jake Reedy who finished the opportunity to the back post.  The Mustangs kept up the pressure for the remainder of the half and forced the Maverick keeper to make several nice saves.  In addition to the strong keeper play, the Mustangs were denied scoring by the crossbar and a defensive clearance in front of an otherwise open goal.  Against the run of play, the Mavericks tied up the match, when a free kick took a fortunate bounce off of the wall and set up a point blank shot.  The Mavericks found inspiration in the second half, and the Mustangs were forced on their heels for the majority of the half.  The possession and pace of the Mavericks play eventually paid off and they took the lead with a well hit volley from just outside of the corner of the eighteen yard box.  With about twelve minutes left, the Mustangs went on the attack and were disappointed when they were off sides on what appeared to be the tying goal.  Minutes later, the Mustangs played a ball across the face of the goal and beat the keeper, but the shot went high.   The Mustangs continued to push, but ran out of time. Man of the Match ~ Jake Reedy
