2008 Match Reports
Alief Hastings 1-1 tie (2-1-1) (5-3-1)
Coming into the game with confidence and a bit of a swagger, the Mustangs took the field to continue their pursuit of a district title. Last game the Mustangs did well to put away golden opportunities to put away their opponent early. Again the Mustangs score midway through the half on a great build up that lead to a penalty kick. Nick “the Swinging Door” Dombalis finished what he started by tucking away the P.K. At times in this game the Mustangs strung together 5-7 pass combinations that led to chances on frame. They also showed that they could be dangerous on counterattacks as well. The difference in this game and the last game is that the goals were harder to find. Hastings held tough and on a broken play managed to put away a nice goal from 25 yards out. The Mustangs will need near perfect play from all three lines in order to come out with two victories next week against Morton Ranch and Cinco Ranch. Man of the Match – Will “McNasty” Childers with some amazing individual skill that left many Hasting defenders dizzy.
Alief Taylor 4-1 win (2-1-0) (5-3-0)
Picture Perfect….almost. The Mustangs brought a good game to Alief Taylor scoring early and often. The “Nigerian Bullet”, Chuck Ifeagwu started off the scoring with a hustle goal early in the first half. He would later add a second goal in the second half. Looking sharp on corner Kicks and set plays the Mustangs added two more goals. One from the “Angry Oak” and the Scotsman Matt Taylor finished the scoring with some great finishing in the box. The Mustangs could not come away with the shutout as they allowed the Lions to score late in the game. This game proved to me and the players that there are goals in our future, finding them is going to be the challenge. Man of the Match – The Nigerian Bullet. Chuck’s speed allows him great opportunities to put the ball in the net.
Katy 1-0 win (1-1-0) (4-3-0)
The Katy Tigers always bring a good game to Taylor, but “Friday Night Lights” refer to football, not futbol. Playing a solid game throughout; the Mustangs put together several dangerous balls to put away the Tigers . Mustang soccer showed the three “P’s” of soccer, Patience, Possession, and Perseverance. Ricardo “Suavemente” Estrada put away a well placed shot after turning a defender. The second half showed the perseverance of the Mustangs as they changed formations and held on to win. The Mustangs show steady improvement in each game as we get ready for Morton and Cinco. Man of the Match – Suavemente Estrada with the game winning goal.
Mayde Creek 1-5 loss (0-1-0) (3-3-0)
Taylor Mustangs started the game with high intensity and determination. P.T. Lok put away a break away to put the Mustangs up early. The first half was dominated by the wind assisted Mustangs with the play of the game on the opposing side for a majority of the half. Missed chances and costly turnovers cost the Mustangs a goal late in the first half. The second half saw two different teams take the field. The Mustangs did not adjust tactically to the wind and saw several counter attacks for the quick Mayde Creek offense. Three of those counter attacks produced goals, added by an own goal to finish off the game. There were several chances for the Mustangs to put away chances in the second half that were thwarted by the keeper. Man of the Match – P.T. Lok with the lone goal
Diadora Cup – Brenham
First match plotted us against a 4A Varsity team from Willis High School. Although the Mustangs played extremely well at times, it was not enough as they fell 3-0. The Willis Varsity proved to be faster and more organized on the attack. The weather didn’t help as it was cold and dreary yet again for another high school soccer match.
The second match had the Mustangs playing another 4A Varsity from North Dallas. The Difference in the two teams was obvious from the get go. North Dallas wanted to play in the horrid conditions and the Mustangs wanted to be on the bus going home. Even against themselves the Mustangs put together some great valiant soccer in unplayable conditions. Again the Mustangs struggled to find the dangerous ball to score. Men of the Match – everyone who endured the cold and wet weather to put together two great efforts
Mustang Classic Champions!
What a great weekend for soccer. The JV A boys soccer team started the preseason off with a bang. No better way to start a season than by going into penalty kicks against Bellaire. With the wind at our backs the Mustangs scored early direct from a corner kick whipped in by junior Gerret Lok a.k.a. “P.T.” Bellaire would later retaliate with a goal due to a brief lapse in defense. All was erased as several players had an opportunity to shoot in the penalty kick shootout. The final score Taylor 7 and Bellaire 6.
The finals matched up the Mustangs and the new kid on the block Seven Lakes. The game was decided early when freshman Steven Vanden Huevel scorched on e past the Seven Lakes keeper, compliments of the Soccer Skills King. The Mustangs dodged a few close attempts on their own net to hold the Spartans off. Who needs 300 when you have 20 strong Mustangs?
Humble win (3-0)
After a beautiful weekend of soccer, Mother Nature reminds us that high school soccer is played during the worst time of the year. Cold, wet, and dreary are the three words that come to mind. The Mustangs made the best of a bad situation by sending Humble home cold, wet, and scoreless. Ricardo Estrada, Will “McNasty” Childers, and the tiny Norwegian Jens Bergensen all scored in this dominating game. Man of the Match – Ricardo Estrada win a smashing first goal
